THANKS FROM THE FOOD PANTRY USERS

The food pantry has continued to be busy all summer, signing up several new families. Now, as we go into winter, more people will be without work and need our services. The families using the pantry are very appreciative

We purchase food from Manna, which is a service depending on donations of surplus food from different sources. Some items seem to be in short supply there and they have indicated that it may be more so this winter.

Items not usually available from Manna are sugar and oil. These are our most needed and expensive items to purchase, followed by canned fruit and dry black beans. For November and December, we are asking for only these four items. For canned fruit, large cans are good. We dont need applesauce as we are able to get that free.

Please encourage your members to pick up at least one item each time they shop for groceries. If each church concentrates on two items, it would be very helpful.  Please bring items to the Highlands United Methodist Church on

The only known pen picture of Jesus from which all artists have had to work:

"This description of Christ was written by Rublius Lentullus, President of Judea, in the reign of Tiberius Caesar to the Monarch of Rome, and first appeared in the writings of Saint Anselm of Canterbury in the Eleventh Century."

"There appeared in these our days a man of great virtue, named Jesus Christ, who is yet living among us, and of the Gentile is accepted for a Prophet of Truth, but his own disciples call him The Son of God.  He raiseth the dead, and cureth all manner of diseases.  A man of stature somewhat tall and comely, with very reverend countenance.  Such as the beholders may love and fear.  His hair of a colour of a chestnut full ripe, plain to his ears, whence downward it is more orient and curling and wavering about his shoulders.  In the midst of his head is a seam or partition in his hair, after the manner of the Nazarites.  His forehead plain and very delicate.  His face without spot or wrinkle, beautified with a lovely red.  His nose and mouth so formed as nothing can be reprehended.  His bear thickish, in colour like his hair, not very long, but forked.  His look innocent and mature.  His eyes grey, clear and quick. In reproving, he is terrible.  In admonishing, courteous and fair spoken, pleasant in conversation, mixed with gravity.  It cannot be remembered that any have seen him laugh, but many have seen him weep.  In proportion of body excellent, his hands and arms most delicate to behold.  In speaking, very temperate, modest and wise.  A man for his singular beauty, surpassing the children of men."

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Christ Anglican Church

It is Sunday morning and I am, at this writing, attending to my ministry as you are attending to yours.  Right now, my ministry is in trouble and needs your help and the help of the people in your congregation.
When we began our organization it was aimed at helping the animals in this county.  The homeless, the abused…much like you would reach out to someone in need…but there are oh so many animals who, through no fault of their own, are without even the most basic of care!
God has indeed been with us since the inception of this organization, formed with the intent of caring for His creatures.  He has gotten us this far despite people, government entities and other organizations throwing not rocks but boulders in our path.  Through it all God has protected and provided for us.  We have won every battle.  Judge David Fox was quoted in the Times-News saying “…they were doing Gods work.”  Now I know He has guided me to write to you for assistance.
We are "All Creatures Great and Small".  All Creatures.  People too!  We employ people who others probably would not.  These are wonderful people who truly love these animals and can reach out to their needs because they have been there, or are there themselves.  We host school groups and scout groups.  We temporarily house animals for people in the Mission and Mainstay until these individuals get on their feet again.  People in the hospital who have no one to care for their pets come to us for help.  Law Enforcement, the court system who send us ‘volunteer’ youngsters from the juvenile Community Service program, people who find animals and don’t want them to take their chances at a kill shelter…we help them all.
Now I am asking for your help.  I am initiating this new program I call “BLESSINGS.”  We hope for Blessings to be a multi-denominational outreach to help God’s creatures, great and small.  Our primary need is financial assistance.  Just for an example…we feed over 600 pounds of dog food a day.  Then there is cat food, litter, cleaners, utilities and so much more!  The media’s deliberate skewing of our situation in order to sell papers has taken much of our support.  We are open to the public 7 days a week from 1 pm to 6 pm; we have nothing to hide!
We are tired; the battles have taken quite a toll in so many ways.  We are tired; there are just so many that need help.  As in scripture, we are asking for help to hold up the hands (arms?) of those of us who are doing the daily care of these animals.  If you could share this information I would be so very appreciative!  We are truly in a troubled situation right now and we ask for your prayers.  Any other ideas are certainly welcome. I can be reached at (828) 216-0693 or email me at: loveandallow@yahoo.com .

If it is a check please make it out to: All Creatures Great and Small c/o the Blessings Fund.
Volunteers are always welcome at All Creatures, as are donations of food or items from the wish list, and new loving homes for the animals are, of course, a priority!  Even words of support feel so good during a long day.
Let me share one true story with you…
One evening, about dark, I was driving past the rescue center with a friend.  It had been a particularly hard week and everyone and everything was suspicious to us at that time.  The media had rattled our cage attempting to provoke response and our nerves were shot!  Just as we approached the center we saw a large white van and a large group of individuals surrounding the front gates of the facility.  We pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car ‘loaded for bear’.  What were these people doing here?!!  As it turned out, they were a group of young people from a local church who had come by earlier in the week to walk dogs.  They came to pray for us.  I don’t think I’ve been so touched by anything before or since.  Tears stream down my face when I tell that story.  It is absolutely true.
Thank you for your kind attention to this situation.  Perhaps someday I can return the favor; if not personally, God will see to it, I assure you!
Blessings!
